Youth & Government is a California YMCA program in which youth learn communication and public speaking skills, learn about their government, how to be effective leaders, and at the same time, have fun and meet new people!
Model Legislature/Court Program
Approximately 2,500 high school youth from all over the state of California gather to discuss issues facing our state. South Coast Children’s Services makes it possible for Pescadero teens to participate in this life-changing experience! During the conferences that the youth attend, they learn how to write bills, select governmental positions to role-play, and some even run for elected offices! The final conference takes place in Sacramento. While there, the teen delegates utilize the historic halls, chambers, and offices of the California State Capitol, Supreme Court, and Governor’s Office.

Model United Nations
This program is a model of the United Nations Assembly, and SCCS makes it possible for Pescadero youth to experience it! Youth delegates research, debate and establish policies, treaties and resolutions focusing on international issues. Delegates are not only assigned a country that they will represent, but they may also take part in one of the organizations of the U.N., like the General Assembly, International Court of Justice, Economic and Social Council, or many more.
